Real name
« Back To Roofers TalkI thought I would let everyone know that my real name is Jay. Since this is as addicting as roofing, I plan on coming here often. I love the insight ...this is like having pops back. A place to talk about roofing and learn about it is getting me excited. Man I love my job. So can I get everyone elses names? I feel like im back in high school........can u all play? :) By the way I am finishing a Hardie shigle roof.remember them? I will post pics soon. The homeowner got a deal on these recalled fiber cement shingles and says they will last if they don't get wet constantly!!!!!!!!!! I hope he is right!! He has half his roof done already. Hey I just do what the customer wants. NO GUARANTEE FROM ME. I haven't started finishing his mess yet and will still try to talk sense into him. Hopefully he will opt for a shingle roof that will be hassle free. I will keep you posted.
Hey Jay. "Old School" is John R. Crookston in Kalamazoo, Michigan
Tom Williams here, but no one believes me!
Welcome aboard Jay. I'm glad you see the benefits of being an active member of RCS. Sometimes, it's like therapy for roofers.
My name is Chuck but you might see a few folks call me Willie. It's a long story but you can call me whatever you like. Maybe Chillie or Wuck? :silly:
Hi Jay, welcome aboard. Like you say this place is addicting. A lot of us have been addicted for 10 years now. A lot of issues have been talked about over the years and there are slow times but it sure has picked up a lot. I'm Gerry, based in the Chicago suburbs. I might have a skewed idea about pricing compared to the guys in the south. Seems like a big difference in what the market will bear. One thing I have learned here is that I need to understand my own numbers and decide how much I want to make in a year so that I can decide what I need to charge to reach that point. The biggest challenge that I have had is justifying in my own head that what I am charging is fair and right. By knowing what my business costs me I can confidently talk to customers about what a job will cost and if I have to I can explain why. I have also learned that I cannot compete with the other roofers that I bid against. I just have to sell my company and crew and try to make it clear that we are the best choice.
Sean Malone, Rockford, Michigan.
Sean is not talking much because he is sick and asking for prayers according to his Facebook posts.

Hey Vickie, where is that post that I started asking people to tell their names and where they were from. That would be a good one for him to look at because there are a bunch of the names on it. Old School.
John, your post is back on page 10. 23,645 views. I was afraid to pull it back up.
I am not afraid. Here it comes.
Sean didn't die and is doing well. His wife will have to try again. I poisoned mine last Monday, but she got well and poisoned me. I survived and we've called it a truce, at least for now.
Some people call me Tinner, some call me Frank. Some others call me XSHZIISH! jfefefu! AFNIIU! and a few other colorful names, especially if they ever tried to work for me..
I can't say what the wife calls me though. Sensors would get me for sure.
