wrap-up. Time marches on. Days turn to weeks, months, years, and decades and suddenly you are seventy. Politics and social issues have always been rife with the potential for bad feeling and so it is wise to avoid as much of that as possible. But after years of hearing derogatory comments about Kalifornia, "socialism," nanny states, & etc. my very much esteemed colleague Mike Hicks cast some doubts awhile back about the ultimate value of "progressive." After mulling this over ever since then I have to state that any life lived without a mind for progress and a concerted effort to be progressive is not a life I have any interest in living.

Much of the current political unrest seems to revolve around the issue of abortion. SCOTUS, Roe v Wade, planned parenthood, "right to life," so-called "fundamentalist Christianity, etc. I am reminded of a slogan that not too long ago was being used to fit a multitude of issues, that being the famous Nature or Nurture.

So let's talk about Nature and leave Nurture out of it then. No matter what the Supreme Court does, no matter what anybody says or doesn't say about anything at all, a significant number of intelligent, self-respecting women faced with an unwanted pregnancy are going to get abortions. There is nothing anyone can now or will ever be able to do about that. Period. Underscored. Exclamation point. Game over.

If a certain number of women end up with a perforated uterus because of poor access to quality care, it's been like that in the past and it would be like that in the future. No "nurturing" sanctimonious counseling or legislative action or coercion or police action is ever going to prevent it. Never. Once again: Game Over. Those women most likely to give birth to future wards of the state will continue and even increase giving birth to future wards of the state.

Roe v Wade and Planned Parenthood are not even topics worth debating.

So much for Pence. As for his current boss, in my opinion what we are witnessing is the most ignorant, fat, rich, dishonest, lascivious, and loathsome creature ever to occupy the White House. Not since the height of the Viet Nam war have I been this ashamed to be a part of this country. It hurts my heart beyond words. I have never, not even during Nixon's Watergate or Clinton's Lewinsky horse$hit, been so daily assaulted, so intellectually violated, or so deeply deeply ashamed.

I'm done talking.

Seriously man, It's just drama. Not government. Not policy. Not even a plan. It's just some weird little boy/ girl/ Days of our Lives Drama.

I just came home from the Dollar Store. At the register there was a People magazine, I think. The Trumps were on the cover. As was the word "Presidency".

Anyway, it was at that point my heartached too, but it was also a revelation. This is not a Presidency. This is Drama.

I'm just glad to be back up here in the Rockies - Sorry for ya'll's angst & dismay.

Coming from a simpleton; I feel the term "progressive" has been hijacked by the left, as has immigrant/immigration.

My sis & hubby are libs/progressives- Live right thar in Marin co. While visiting, last summer, the uncle, basically, in so many words, tells my 18yr old that he needs to really explore what the worlds all about when he goes off to school. That's there's much more out there than what his parents think, etc....

My son tells me this and, (thank God), has the capacity to realize the projection ism, (that a word?) - How these people that live in such a bubble are so incredibly naive.

My main objection to California is the "dream it and it will happen" mentality. They dream it, it doesn't happen so they think the dream wasn't big enough.

As for abortion, the libertarian side of me says "if they don't want their child, society shouldn't be burdened". But on the other hand, a local science museum has a display of fetus's in one month increments and it is very obvious to me what you are terminating after 5 months. I think every woman considering an abortion should view a similar display.

As for Planned Parenthood, I think everyone should be at least curious what they are really doing as for as tissue harvesting. Not wanting to know means you have a suspicion they are going beyond even your personal bounds.

In the Republican primary, Trump was a tie for me for last place (with Lindsay Graham and Huckabee). Had the Dems put up anybody but a Clinton, I would have preferred them to Trump.

As for CNN, they are partly to blame for Trump. The way they (and MSNBC, NBC etc.) gave him free airtime all through the primaries, it was obvious they wanted him as the weakest opposition. And poor, dumb, arrogant Trump was clueless what happened, he actually believed they were doing it for ratings because people loved him so much.

the word "socialism" has a bad connotation but it turns out the most socialist institution in America is the US army ,the crown jewel of the American conservatism pride lol. http://www.thedailybeast.com/troops-of-the-uniform-unite-the-military-is-a-socialist-paradise http://firebrandleft.com/us-military-socialist-organization-america/

[/quote] This is circus ,which becomes drama when you think that involves the most powerful office on the planet who the rest of the mankind looks up to for guidance and leadership.

Fallacy 1: The SCOTUS is not the be-all-end-all when it comes to behavior. God is. Christians believe that we will have to answer to God at the end of our days if we condone the murder of the unborn.

Fallacy 2: Californa is broke, both financially and morally. No need for proof beyond that to establish that their lifestyle is flawed and unsustainable.

But does anyone really think that Hillary would have been better than Trump? Coz if a lot of people believe that, I'm buying more ammo for the coming revolution.

Go ahead and make the ammo dealer richer and get ready for the revolution , because as per the last election results about 65 million people thought than Hillary would have been better than Trump.

65 million people who add 2+2 and get 9. Quite an accomplishment.

As Bush did with Gore, thankfully Trump knew the real game was the Electoral College. Had it been the popular vote, Trump would have ran a different race, and still won.

I fear for this nation and my grandkids' future. When so many people really think that handing the SCOTUS over to the most corrupt family in American political history, that is scary.

The power in this nation lies not on either coast, but in the middle. We have the right kind of power, the kind you can't do a thing about.

Alba - and I thought I was alone on that perspective - Yes, our military is an incredibly socialistic environment - How ironic...or is that hypocritical? Or both?

I don't know i'm trying to wrap my head around it too.It seems like the us military is a luxurious welfare system.I was watching house hunting international on tv.this military couple had a $5000 a month housing allowance to live off the base in Okinawa japan. They picked a nice house right on the beach.after 20 yeas of such sacrifice for their country they have the right to retire , with a pension.they keep on sucking government's tits this time as "civilian government contractors". all this paid for by poor roofers who have to toil on those roofs until they're 67'5 years old after having worked most of their lives on jobs without health insurance or paid vacation. half of my older roofing colleagues have already died before the age of 60 , broke.

Maybe you missed all the flag-draped coffins coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan about C-117 transports. They sacrificed plenty, or were at risk to.

This coming from a guy who keeps his AR-15 ready to fight them if feels like the government is infringing his freedom. I'm trying to understand :I hate the government but I love the military which is run by the government.
