Good thing you didn't touch it. That's a fly ageric, a member of the amanita family, aka "The Death Cap" and "Destroying Angel". Most people don't touch this one cuz it's so easily recognized, but many of the other amanitas look terribly similar>>>

Brings to mind a really good article in The Economist some yrs back, if I remember right there are something like 30,000 odd varieties of shrooms but only a few are edible to humans. Far more are used in ancient medicine, like the one used to battle alcoh>>>
