egg - Actually, I think I'm with ya mostly - Some probably consider me somewhat of a "middle-of-the-road-tard", (LOL). i.e., I feel very strongly that there should be state contractor licensing & that our police are way out of control....

In any event - As for those "gov't jobs" - Things have flopped-around on us for sure. Back in my early 20's I was making far more $, working outside, going into business for myself, (mo $), living it up, while my buddies went off to school, got degrees & took jobs paying far less & for what I thought boring/menial careers.

25yr+/- later.....One of my buddies who dropped-out of the const. scene and took a job with a gov't agency is sitt'n pretty these days. He & his wife are knock'n-down $200k+/yr and will retire shortly with probably darn near the same income. Whooda thunk?

I still prefer the route I took - However, the point is, those gov't jobs are not so bad these days.

S-I-A, that sounds like what I witnessed. In 1976, I worked in Alberta. It was just the beginning of East Asian immigration and the all-white guys I worked with would yell derogatory things out the truck window at any immigrants they passed. They referred to them all as "Pakies". It was terribly embarrassing to me at the time.

Then these same guys would ask me questions like "why can't you Yanks get along with the n*ggers"?

In the early 80's I was seeking another tile supplier and went up to talk to the owners of a company called Columbia Tile in Surrey, BC. They were owned by people from India. I think they were Sikhs.

It didn't work out as for me buying tile from them. I later heard from my Monier salesman that they were having problems breaking into the BC market because Columbia had family members linked from the production to the installation and worked very long hours for not much pay.

There was no way to compete when they owned the complete supply chain. The same went for the cedar shakes and shingles. They had the mills- trucking- installation all sewed up. Columbia Tile had the market up here. When you have the whole supply chain you can control a lot of variables such as pricing to competition, paying cash for basic labour and circumventing regulations and payroll burdens. How do you compete when their bid for total install is close to your material costs?

I remember staying over night at my sister-in-laws in the 90's and they were building track housing on the other side of the street. There were 4 large houses with the roofs all strapped and ready for roofing. In the late evening a semi truck arrived with tile and two large passenger vans with ladders. There were probably 25-30 East Indian men who proceeded to load the roofs. Like a bunch of ants, going up one ladder and down the other, carrying the clay tiles on their heads. (A whole new connotation to the term "Pakis") They were all gone in less than an hour. Looked out the next morning and all 4 houses had the tile laid except for the valleys- hips and ridges. There were two men with a saw working on those.

They had basically locked up the new construction residential market in tile and cedar. They seemed to still contract out the install of asphalt to the white guy as they worked for a cheaper rate.

The decision was as easy as: Should I fall off this 5-stry roof, or should I not fall off this 5-story roof?

There were not 2 choices for anyone who knows that a left-leaning SCOTUS would repeal 2A and make abortions as common as root canals.

Our nation is almost equally divided among people who work, and people who vote for politicians who take money from those who work so that they don't have to work. It is equally divided between those who grasp what losing the SC would mean, and those who don't.

The choice was easy.

I'll jump in for a second, having not read the previous three pages of comments: I did vote for Trump, but was bowled over when he won. The biggest sigh of relief in recent memory, and a feeling of hope for the country's future overtook me at that moment. He certainly wasn't the perfect candidate, but next to Hillary there wasn't any choice. I agree almost to the letter with what MikeH had to say about the election, and Hillary's dubious wealth accumulation. We know where she was going with her agenda, but Trump at least talked the talk that we needed to hear. Now let's see if he walks the walk.

Red herring. If I shot the mailman for driving on my lawn last Tuesday, just because the act was wrong doesn't mean it wasn't Tuesday.

2A will ALWAYS remain, simply because there are enough rednecks who know that to allow its repeal is to allow the ruination of our country and likely an eventual slip into Monarchy. It is the nature of the hunger for power to control those you've conquered. The Second Amendment is THE only thing which prevents that power grab.

I don't think that the rednecks are that philosophical but it is what it is. I guess DJ Trump knew what he was talking about when he said: I love the uneducated people.

LOL Fresh out of arguments, eh?

I'll just leave it at: You can have my guns when you come and get them. You'll get the ammo first. ;-)

RG: I respect your beliefs and opinions. I believe, and hope, that in the end , it is the human spirit, rather than the human condition that pulls through.

However, for 90% of the 2A gun nuts out there , when the military comes to get your guns, 80-90% of you will bow down and BEG : " Don't shoot me! Please GOD, take my gun just please don't shoot! " AND they will call it some simplistic form of "Patriotism" when they surrender.

No dis respect intended, it's all cool with me, but ugly nasty, consumerism and target practice will not "trump" the will/ want to survive, or simply live.

And yes the Donald is nothing but a rich, nasty little pussy....I'll leave it at that. I hope to be proven wrong by him. In the meantime, he is sparking a badly needed conversation that this country needs to have. imho.

I find value in everything. Does not cost a dime to think

80-90% would bow down and beg? Wrong! 97% would. That is the concept of "III Percenters (3 percenters)." Oath keepers is a similar group, but specifically made up of present/former military members, cops, first responders. And that is the part you miss - that the very people you want to think would come to disarm Americans, have sworn not to.

Military members also took an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign AND domestic. 2A and the BOA are part of that oath. I have been around a bunch of them during these discussions at gun ranges, tactical training course, etc. and I can tell you that in excess of 95% of them would refuse any order to disarm Americans. They tried it on a tiny scale during Katrina and it failed miserably.

So yes, people like you would hand over guns. Your very post pretty much stated as much. But if you think there are not patriots who would give their life to defend freedom and our Constitution, you need to go ask for a refund from your history teachers in school, because this nation's history is rife with examples of exactly that. From our very beginning.

Lastly, I think you miss an important part of the whole "gun culture." The only reason that mainland U.S. was not invaded by the Japs in WWII was Admiral Yamamoto's admonition that in America "there is a gun behind every blade of grass." It's a deterrent. 300 million guns in the U.S. is a deterrent too future U.S. leaders who may have visions of grandeur. Take away our guns and that deterrent goes with them.

Lastly Part II, people confuse what we "gun nuts" are all about. As much as anything, it is to us what golf is to others - it's a hobby. Granted, a more useful one. I didn't study and teach the martial arts for 13 years because I thought one day I would need that skill set to defend myself or my family. I did it because I enjoyed the challenge - the fact that the skill set was more useful than golf or collecting toy train sets was just a side-benefit. Same goes for guns and gun training, which has taken the place of karate for me since I can't do that anymore. I have trained with a former Navy SEAL for 4 years now. Last year I trained with SEAL Team 6 member Craig Sawman Sawyer in Dallas. Two weeks ago I trained with a former Tier 1 operator in a "Lo Light No Light" nighttime handgun class which started at 8pm when it was 27 degrees out, and finished at midnight when it was much colder. It was miserably cold - I enjoyed the challenge - I enjoy knowing that most guys my age (or any age) won't push themselves like that. I didn't do it because I think the Feds are going to come to take my guns some day.

Don't assume that everyone thinks like you think.

III%: What is a Threeper? What is an Oathkeeper?

During the American Revolution, the active forces in the field against the King’s tyranny never amounted to more than III% of the colonists. Three percenters today, for the most part, identify with this 3% because they were true patriots fighting for the freedoms the nation we love and honor was founded on. Three percenters intend to maintain their God-given natural rights to liberty and property. History itself, for good or ill, is made by determined minorities. Never underestimate the power of a small group of committed citizens to change the world. Indeed, it has never been done otherwise.

Three Percenter Oath Keeper A Threepercenter can be anyone, while an Oathkeeper is active duty Law Enforcement or Military Many of us three percenters swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and affirming that we are guardians of the Republic, of the principles in our Declaration of Independence, and of the rights of our people, we affirm and the following:

III% Patriot Threeper

We will NOT obey orders to disarm the American people. We will NOT obey orders to conduct warrantless searches of the American people We will NOT obey orders to detain American citizens as “unlawful enemy combatants” or to subject them to military tribunal. We will NOT obey orders to impose martial law or a “state of emergency” on a state. We will NOT obey orders to invade and subjugate any state that asserts its sovereignty. We will NOT obey any order to blockade American cities, thus turning them into giant concentration camps. We will NOT obey any order to force American citizens into any form of detention camps under any pretext. We will NOT obey orders to assist or support the use of any foreign troops on U.S. soil against the American people to “keep the peace” or to “maintain control.” We will NOT obey any orders to confiscate the property of the American people, including food and other essential supplies. We will NOT obey any orders which infringe on the right of the people to free speech, to peaceably assemble, and to petition their government for a redress of grievances.

The point is that - even if only 3% of Americans would be willing to resist gun confiscation efforts - that 3% is doing more to do to prevent the attempt than the 97% who sit back and complain about the 3% being Rambo wannabes.

And from a purely practical standpoint, the gun community is misunderstood. Few "hobbies" make sense from a financial standpoint. If purchased wisely, guns and ammo are just like money in a savings account, except that they draw a lot more interest. In 3 weeks I'll go to Vegas for SHOT Show, the largest gun gathering in the world - and I'll write off the trip as a business expense. :-)

From what I see so far the Americans have been using their guns to kill themselves and others and not to defend freedom and liberty which are in the eye of beholder , highly subjective concepts that mean different things to different people.
