A cool day in the woods
« Back To Roofers TalkThe whitetail rut is in full swing in Ohio and I spent the afternoon, a cold, breezy, rainy one, hunting on the ground. About 45 minutes before dark, I had deer all around me, as I hunkered close to a tree hoping to see the big one. Two nice 8 points, t>>>
Sheesh Mike, we don't even have to go to the woods to find deer. They are all over the highway here. Saw a really nice buck (at least 8 points) on the side of the hig>>>

That's the 10 point I'm hunting. Haven't seen him in a 'fair chase' environment yet. The big ones are so dang smart.

Well, fair chase is like described in the first post. I was on the ground, in their territory, trying to outfox their eyes, their ears, and their nose. I succeeded on all counts. But I passed the nice 8 point up because I knew the big one was ar>>>

It's fun to watch how we can mow, weed, do all kinds of yard work, and they will continue their feeding when they are in the woods, but set just one foot inside the woodline, and any deer>>>
Those deer are huge compared to the Key Deer around here.>>>
Wife and I were walking the dog at a local boat launch. As we walked along te wooded edge of the parking lot, I realized 2 does were curled up 10' from the asphalt watching all the boating activity and people in general. They took off when they realized>>>
HOP, assuming they look just like, or even smaller than they deer on the panhandle coast, then I'll bet they are.
The deer around St. Joseph State Park look like german shep's with horns.>>>
Those bucks, around here, wood be considered monsters. Rarely ever do they get that size in my area.>>>
Everything is big in Texas but them are some nice deer.>>>
