Ridge standing seam
« Back To Roofers TalkHi all What type of ridge do you use? My supplier sells me the kind that goes on first. Pans slide in, (no z is screwed on). Has anyone had any problems with it? It is much quicker and easier. Pros cons? >>>
Quicker and easier because you can do all of the flashing before you have to install any panels. That is how we do it also. On a steep roof it really saves the time because it is dificult to get around on a standing seam roof after the panels are all on.>>>
Do you box your panels?>>>
Sounds like the sliding panel system to me.......... Is there any manufacturers that recommend and warranty that install? I do know that it is quicker, but at what cost?? I had a rep. come and demo a panel machine for me and in our conversation he had told me that he did these two standing seam roofs for nation wide food chain here. He didn't get the sale because I had to repair both of those roofs! Sliding panels everywhere! Thats why I don't like the "one year workmanship warranty" Needs to be min. 5yr. I'm not afraid of 10yr. workmanship warranty. I believe all Quality manufacturers require boxing and Zees.

I prefer to install Z-closure after the panels are installed however, if the pitch of the roof is 7:12 or greater, we will install C-Channel, then box and slide the panels into the C.>>>
c channel and vent system and cap can be installed before the roof even gets delivered.>>>
I'm sorry, but what manufacturer would give a watertight warranty on that or is it just a faster way....I was taught to do it like that, plus they had us put a foam backer rod shoved up under the ridge which eventually falls out.Lame. what about wind driven rain??
Hop.. I'm here to learn not argue or anything like that... Is there a manuf. detail for that?

VT_country_slater: Looks like the panels have slid down. Poor installation.>>>
Boxed, then capped. Would never install a so-called flashing first.

You're looking up at the bottoms of the top ends of the panels. They're boxed off. No underlay needed. The 'white' area between the panels in the bottom of the ridge cap.
I prefer to just hem my own in their entirety though; http://www.albertsroofing.com/Tin%20Roofing%20photo_gallery.htm>>>
The url button doen't seem to work. Might have to C&P the link while I tinker with it.
